Burlington contributes to county marketing study
Comet staff report

Carroll County Economic Development Corporation Director Daryl Smith gave an update on economic development issues in the county at the July 11 meeting of the Burlington Town Council. The EDC and County Chamber of Commerce are soliciting funds from the entire county, both government and private entities, to complete a marketing study that will give direction to move the county forward economically. Town officials approved Smith's request that the town contribute $1 per capita to help fund the study. That amount was $600.

Les Johnson reported that paving is complete. He detailed repair made to tile on Mill Road rather than total tile replacement. He also reported that the wastewater treatment plant painting is almost finished and tree limbs around town have been trimmed.

Dyer reported that the town had received a letter from the County Council advising that towns in Carroll County may be asked to help finance Animal Control service in each town's area. No plan or particulars were given. The next county council meeting will be July 31 at 6 p.m.

President Robert Davis acknowledged the meeting as a public hearing for Stan Moore's request to vacate two alleys. After town attorney Anne Briggs reviewed and recommended passage of the proposed ordinance, Councilman Wayne Swaim moved to vacate alleys as proposed in Moore's petition. The alleys run east/west between lots 14 and15 and 82 and 83; run north/south between lots 16, 15, and14 and 81, 82, and 83).

A budget work session was held July 13.

The next regular meeting will be Aug. 8 at 7 p.m. in the town hall.
