Delphi

The feature for both morning and evening book clubs is "The Glass Castle," a memoir by Jeannette Walls. The book is also the 2007 selection for Carroll County on the Same Page, a cooperative effort between Camden-Jackson and Flora-Monroe township libraries. Evening book club will be July 25 at 7 p.m., and morning book club July 27 at 9 a.m. Pick up a copy of "The Glass Castle" and participate in a countywide celebration of this remarkable book.

Do not forget to mark your calendars for July 21 and 22, when Delphi Public Library Stargazers present Ronald Dahl's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." Grace Currie stars as the likeable but wacky candy maker Willy Wonka. Susannah Germond plays the role of the endearing hero Charlie Bucket. A number of talented stage veterans and newcomers create a cast of characters that will delight audiences with zany unlikely antics in this classic fantasy.

Flora-Monroe Township

Attention all muggles! The library's program room will be the guest residence of the Hogwarts School of Wizardry. The final book in the Harry Potter series will fly off the shelves on July 21. What a better way to end summer reading and get ready for the big day than with a party! Wild About Harry! (Potter) will be this Friday, July 20, at 1:30 p.m.

There will be games including a muggle version of Quidditch, lots of food to eat, and potions to make. Also, one lucky muggle will win a copy of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," by J.K. Rowling.

The "It's All About the Circus!" summer reading program is coming to an end. The last day to collect prizes will be Friday. We've had a fun filled summer of exciting programs, fun art classes, and great books!

Carroll County is buzzing about "The Glass Castle," by Jeannette Walls, the 2007 Carroll County on the Same Page selection. Multiple copies are available for checkout at any of the public libraries in Carroll County - Flora, Delphi and Camden. Read the book then come to our book discussion group on Saturday, July 28, to discuss this poignant memoir.

Storytime is on summer hiatus until August 14. Children can hear stories 24 hours a day on the library's Dial-A-Story. The current story is "The Unhappy Chickens." Friday the story will change to "The Proud Rooster." Call Dial-A-Story, 967-3814.

Camden

"Pioneer Days, Journey on a Wagon Train" summer reading program ended last week with a trip to the Mullin Schoolhouse. Miss Deb and the children talked about the many changes in schools from times past to today.

This was also awards and party day. The highest readers in each grade were: Kindergarten - Katie Stanley, 26 books; 1st Grade - Chad Canen, 36; 2nd Grade - Chelsea Whitfield; 3rd Grade - Blaine Bolton, 36, and Coy Myers, 32; 4th Grade - Lauren Wolf, 45; Blake Peters, 28; and Karlee Sparks, 16. The second highest reader in each grade also received a prize.

The children played games and afterwards watermelon was served.

"The library appreciates all the children who took part in our Pioneer Days reading program this summer," said Shirley Schock, library director. "We are proud of the many books read by the children and all the time, effort and enjoyment they received from being in the reading program."

The final event will be a trip to the Peru Circus on July 18.

Museum open

The town's historical museum is located on the second floor of the library and will be open during the town's 175th anniversary celebration Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A smaller display will be available for viewing in the Reading Room.

"This Was Camden," a new Camden history book, is for sale at the library.
