County's 50th 4-H Fair Queen to be crowned Saturday night

Vying for title Miss Carroll County 2007 will be crowned during the 50th annual pageant Saturday night. Contestants are (left to right): Front - Jackie Combs, Courtney Rinehart, Desiray Simmons. Twelve young women will vie for the title of Miss Carroll County 2007 Saturday evening. The 50th annual pageant will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the show arena at the 4-H grounds in Flora.

During the event, contestants will compete in professional wear, formal wear and will be required to respond to an impromptu question. Earlier in the day, the contestants will be tested on their formal interview skills.

A queen and three runnerups will be chosen by the judges, along with Miss Congeniality, chosen by the contestants.

The court will preside over the 4-H Fair, presenting ribbons and attending events. The queen will represent Carroll County at the State Fair pageant held in August.

Miss Carroll County 2006, Hannah Mears, will co-host the pageant along with Jerry Hendress. Miss Mears will highlight her events from the past year as reigning queen. Past Carroll County Queens will be introduced as well as any visiting queens. The newly crowned Little Miss and Mister will also be introduced during the pageant.

This year's theme is "Fun in the Sun," chosen by Mears and will be decorated accordingly. The contestants have been busy preparing for the pageant with meetings, mock interviews, a make-up session with Anne Hughes of Sassy's, and practicing stage walking. For a fun activity the girls went bowling and to the Clinton County Queen Pageant. The activities have allowed the girls to become a closer group.

There are some special effects being planned to commensurate the 50th anniversary.

The contestants and their sponsors are:

Desiray Lynette Simmons, 19, is the daughter of Jeff and Michelle Simmons. A freshman at Purdue University, she is being sponsored by D. J. Harmon, Optometrist, and Cindy Harmon, Attorney at Law. Desiray is a 10-year member of the Monroe Achievers 4-H Club.

Leann Jean Cossairt, 18, is the daughter of Terry and Bonnie Cossairt. A freshman at Indiana University Kokomo, she is being sponsored by Holly's Hair Hut and Parrett's Meat Processing and Catering. Leann is an eight-year member of the Monroe Achievers 4-H Club.

Kayleigh Alicia Morgan, 17, is the daughter of Cheryl Morgan and the late Steven Morgan. A senior at Delphi Community High School, she is being sponsored by Shade's of Brown, Sassy's, Abbott Funeral Home, Parrett's Meat Processing and Catering and Portraits by Lori. Kayleigh is a nine-year member of the Madison Magnificents 4-H Club.

Jacqueline Sinnamon Combs, 18, is the daughter of Dave and Lois Combs. A freshman at Ball State University, she is being sponsored by Sinnamon Show Supply. Jacqueline is a 10-year member of the Burlington Wildcats 4-H Club.

Sarah Kae Brown, 18, is the daughter of Lisa Brown and the late Edward Brown. A freshman at Purdue University, she is being sponsored by Parrett's Meat Processing and Catering. Sarah is a 10-year member of the Carroll County Young Wranglers Horse and Pony Club.

Courtney S. Rinehart, 18, is the daughter of Bret and Michelle Rinehart. A freshman at Manchester College, she is being sponsored by Excel Coop Inc., Flora, and Country Hair II. Courtney is a 10-year member of the Monroe Achievers 4-H Club.

Joanna Christine Zink, 19, is the daughter of Harold and Beth Zink. A freshman at the University of Indianapolis, she is being sponsored by Bonham Real Estate and David Krause DDS. Joanna is a 10-year member of the Tippecanoe Triumphs 4-H Club.

Michelle Annette Burke, 17, is the daughter of Tim and Julie Burke. A senior at Twin Lakes High School, she is being sponsored by Jefferson Township 4-H Club and Excel Coop, Monticello. Michelle is a nine-year member of the Jefferson Township Go-Getters 4- H Club.

Jennifer Evelyn Hardyniec, 18, is the daughter of Bruce and Lori Hardyniec. A freshman at Rose Hulman Institute of Technology, she is being sponsored by Mann Chevrolet- Buick, Inc. and Sisson & Son Mfg. Jewelers, Inc. Jennifer is a 10-year member of the Monroe Achievers 4-H Club.

Kristen Lanae Arnett, 17, is the daughter of Scott and Tamie Arnett. A senior at Carroll Jr.-Sr. High School, she is being sponsored by Carman Excavating and Donato's Pizzeria. Kristen is a nine-year member of the Burlington Wildcats 4-H Club.

Lena Rose Schock, 17, is the daughter of Todd and Rose Schock. A senior at Delphi Community High School, she is being sponsored by family and friends. Lena is a nine-year member of the Deer Creek Delphiniums 4-H Club.

Katie Lee Pearson, 17, is the daughter of Tom and Teresa Pearson. A senior at Carroll Jr.-Sr. High School, she is being sponsored by Dean Scott Farms. Katie is a nine-year member of the Democrat Township Lads & Lassies 4-H Club.
