Jason Dunning, 35 of Camden, formerly of Morris, Ill. began working as a deputy for the Carroll County Sheriff's Department July 2. He is also a volunteer firefighter in Jackson Township.
Dunning spent 17 years in the Marine Corp, stationed in Colorado. He is a nationally registered EMT. He is also a scuba diver.
Dinning will complete a 40- hour online course sponsored by the police academy and will be firearms qualified. He will work with a field-training officer for approximately a month before being allowed on solo patrol.
The single parent told the Comet Monday that he finds Carroll County tight-knit and relaxing.
"I am looking forward to getting on the job and filling in where needed," said Dunning. "I think this is a good place to raise the kids."
"And I'm learning a lot about cows," he concluded.
