Delphi to host Youth Baseball Semi-State

Delphi's Paul Goyer Field will again be a busy place this weekend as eight youth baseball teams from around Central Indiana will take part, including

the three-time defending state champion host team, in the Semi-State round of the 39th annual Town & Country Youth Baseball State Tournament.

The Delphi team, now playing in the Senior League (12- year-olds-&-under), took its first step toward a fourthstraight championship with a relatively easy 11-1 victory over North White Monday night at the District III championship in Reynolds.

The host team will open Semi-State action on Thursday night at 6 p.m. against Marion.

The Senior League Rossville team also earned a berth in the double-elimination Semi- State and will open play against Greentown, the District IV champion, on Friday at 8 p.m.

Other Senior League teams advancing to play this weekend include Pioneer, Alexandria, Gas City and North White.

Junior League

Delphi's Junior League team (10-&-under) also won its district, defeating Walton 6-5 Monday night in the championship game played in Delphi. Both teams, along with Camden, will now advance to the Walton Semi-State, which will also be a double-elimination format, with Delphi opening against Frankton Thursday night at 6 p.m.

Camden will follow at 8 p.m. against Marion. Other Junior League teams playing at Walton include Attica, Alexandria and Daleville.

Minor League

The Delphi Minor League team (8-&-under) also advanced to Semi-State action with a 3rd place finish at the district-level tourney played at Camden.

Rossville also qualified for the Frankton Semi-State with its runner-up finish at the district and will play the host team Friday at 6 p.m. Delphi will face Frankfort Thursday night at 8 p.m.

District champs Monticello and Russiaville will join North White and Alexandria in the Minor division Semi-State.

Tournament play continues throughout the weekend, with the Semi-State championship rounds slated for Monday night at 6 p.m, with the "if necessary" game following at 8.

The top four teams from each Semi-State will advance to the state finals held next weekend.
