Subdivision decision is reversed After hearing from the proposed purchaser of a tract of land at Tippecanoe Heights, Carroll County Area Plan Commission members reversed a decision made at the April meeting. The action happened at the June 26 evening APC meeting. Two tracts of land in Tippecanoe Township were previously platted as subdivisions by developer James Ike Tarvin, however only one tract was developed into a subdivision. The other remained untouched and Tarvin decided to sell the tract. However, the proposed buyer for the land was only interested in the entire 16-acre lot, not a portion of it. In April, neighbors objected to the request and APC denied it at that time. Shane Spencer, who wants to purchase the land for a single family dwelling and be able to raise 4-H livestock on it, told APC members that he worked through issues with the neighbors to everyone's satisfaction. According to zoning administrator Dale Huffer, all neighbors received notification of the second request to vacate the plat. No one attended the meeting to object to the request, which was approved unanimously. Other business A request by Jonathon and Jean Randle to rezone property at 5169 Wells St. from Urban Residential to Agriculture was given an unfavorable recommendation, which will be forwarded to the county commissioners for final action. The Randles have owned approximately eight-and-onehalf acres at the address for approximately 25 years. They live and raise 4-H livestock there. Jon Randle said the people who lived there before them also had livestock. Neighbors Robert and Carol Oliver and Ed and Donna Sholty objected to the rezoning. Both couples said they did not mind if the Randles had 4- H livestock there, but they did not want a commercial operation to be able to locate there in the future. They also expressed a concern about the number of animals the Randles keep and their inability to contain them on their property 100 percent of the time. Primary subdivision approval was given to Stanley K. and Deborah L. Moore for the Ann-T-Emm Estates in Burlington. The next APC meeting will be July 24 at 7 p.m. Comprehensive Land Use Plan APC will hold a call-out for anyone in the community who would like to participate as a member of the steering committee for the plan currently under development. The call-out will be July 26 at 7 p.m. at the 4-H Community Building in Flora. Community members are urged to participate in the development of the plan by serving on the steering committee.
