Wheat yields down but spirits are up
The Crowels of northern Carroll County are shown harvesting wheat Monday. Yields are 10 to 15 bushels lower on average this year compared to last, due in large part to disease brought on by winter weather, according to Paul Marcellino of Purdue Extension Carroll County. He said much-needed rain fell at a bad time for wheat harvesters, but was welcome none-the-less. "Other than a few spots in the county that were missed, virtually everyone in the county received rain the past couple weeks. It didn't help the wheat harvest much, but other crops will certainly benefit from it," Marcellino explained. Comet photo by Kevin Schnepp
