4-H members attend Round-Up

Carroll County 4-H members attended the 88th-annual State 4-H Youth Round-Up held June 25-27 at Purdue University. The purpose of the round-up is to help members in junior high learn about college life, career possibilities, how to develop leadership skills, and have fun meeting new people as they experience a conference on a Big Ten campus.

During the program, members participated in a variety of activities including a get-acquainted mixer, a dance, the 4- H Band Jamboree, Share-the-Fun Festival, State 4-H Chorus concert and a community service project.

Members also attended three classes covering a variety of Purdue majors from 11 schools during Career Exploration Day.

The classes were modeled after actual Purdue classes and taught by Purdue professors and assistants. Topics included agriculture, consumer & family sciences, education, engineering, liberal arts, management, nursing, pharmacy, science, technology and veterinary medicine.

Several area organizations and businesses helped provide the opportunity, for which Joanne Lytton of Purdue Extension Carroll County was grateful.

"What a great way to provide a very beneficial experience for our youth in Carroll County," Lytton stated.
