Head Start heads to Carroll Elementary
By Jenna Buehler Comet writer-intern

After a ten-year partnership with the Delphi School Corporation, Area IV Head Start is relocating to Carroll Elementary. The move is a result of program requirements not coinciding with the changing needs of DCSC. Location, however, will be the only change for the Head Start program.

"We are very grateful that Delphi school corporation and Mr. Walker (superintendent Ralph) wanted us to be a part of the new Early Childhood Center in Camden," said Debi Debruyn, Head Start director. "However, program standards require us to locate in an area with a higher population density as supported by our Community Assessment."

Carroll Consolidated School Corporation and Area IV Head Start have signed a long-term lease agreement to provide classroom space and food service for 24 Carroll County children. The room will be located in the northwest wing of the school, adjacent to the gymnasium. Carroll Consolidated School Corporation Superintendent John Sayers supports the relocation action.

"We are excited about providing an opportunity for all young people in the community," said Sayers. "We are glad to provide a new transition to get children into our facilities earlier. It will be a great advantage for students in our district to attend Head Start in our building."

According to Debruyn, two buses will be available to transport children from homes all over Carroll County to the new site.

"A major benefit of this decision is that children will not spend as much time on the bus at this location," said Debruyn. "We believe that we've picked the place that will best serve our families."

The Head Start program is accepting applications for Carroll County children, ages three to five, at Carroll Elementary School for fall enrollment. Fall double session classes will begin September 10. Contact the Carroll County Head Start site at (765) 564-4376 for more information.
