Teacher attends Math Academy

Lach-Stone
Margaret Lach-Stone of Camden, a teacher at Springmill Elementary School, Washington Twp., Indianapolis, was one of 30 teachers selected for special training at the Math Academy.

The Academy was sponsored by Purdue University School of Engineering and ran from June 18 through June 22.

As part of the Academy grant, each teacher received a laptop and digital camera.

Lach-Stone had the honor of winning the project competition. As a one-day project, the teachers were given a variety of materials and were asked to design a carrier, using math and other concepts. Lach-Stone won for designing the carrier that could hold the most weight.

She has taught at Springmill for more than 20 years as a first and second grade teacher. Education professors at IUPUI selected her class two years ago to work with and learn from over a one-year period. They wrote a book on education curriculum as a result.

Lach-Stone and her husband, Steve, moved to Camden last December after purchasing the Joe Jones home. She commuted to her teaching job in Indianapolis, They moved to Carroll County when Steve took a job with Wabash Valley Hospital- Delphi as an addictions counselor.
