Although the 4th of July will be observed this Sunday, there will be no snap, crackle or pop from fireworks displays around the county.

Last year, fireworks celebrating Independence day were observed in Delphi, Flora and Burlington, but controversy over the cost and safety of fireworks display arose following the annual Freedom Day celebrations.

This year, county residents will need to leave the county to observe any fireworks display over the 4th of July.

Folks at the Locke Cooke farm, southeast of Bringhurst, couldn't figure why the electric power went off at 3:00 o'clock in the morning. When daylight came, new fuses were tried and finally an R.E.M.C. repairman, John Bowman, was called. Bowman found that a huge black tomcat had either gone on an exploring expedition to the top of a pole, or had ascended the heights to get away from an unfriendly dog. If it was safety "Tom" sought he didn't find it for he lost all nine of his lives in one mighty jolt and put the transformer out of commission, too.

Collections from parking meters in Delphi since Jan. 1, 1957 to date, have amounted to $4,024.27. This does not include fines for illegal or overparking.

Harve Lynch's large new barn at his country home south of Delphi is nearing completion according to Doc Million, contractor and will be modern when finished. It will hold 50 tons of hay with 18 stalls specially equipped for cattle, a granary and well planned in other features. The sills in the old mill on Deer Creek were made good use of. The old sheds near by the barn will be torn down and the farm will look like an entire different place. There is nothing too good for Harve Lynch.
