Burlington marshal takes medical leave

In a special meeting held June 19, the Burlington Town Council hired Kevin Hammond as a temporary part-time employee to fill in for his wife, town marshal Jill Hammond, while she is on medical leave.

The new hire, a certified officer and sheriff's deputy, began his duties immediately, working 15-20 hours per week. His pay was set at $13 an hour.

The council also discussed utilizing Kevin Hammond for part-time additional police coverage for the town after the marshal returns from her leave. No decision was made.

Councilman Wayne Swaim asked for clarification of the council's action at its last meeting regarding the removal of cement headers on Jackson Street. During the last meeting, the council agreed by consensus to have Carman Excavating remove cement headers. At this meeting by passed motion Carman Excavating will remove the cement headers on Jackson Street at the town's expense.

The recycling driver will be on vacation the first two weeks of July. There will be no pick up July 4 or 11.

The next regular meeting will be July 11 at 7 p.m. in the town hall.
