Camden

The "Pioneer Days" Summer Reading kids were picked up last Wednesday morning by the trolley, driven by Brian Stirm. They were taken to the Carroll County Historical Museum and then toured Delphi. Following a picnic lunch the group toured the Wabash & Eric Canal Interpretive Center and schoolhouse, concluding the afternoon with a canal boat ride.

This week's program (June 27) will be presented by Judy Berkshire on pioneer medicines (herbs). The July 5 program will be entitled "Gold Rush."

Don't forget to pick up a copy of "The Glass Castle," the Carroll County One Book Read.

Delphi

Delphi library will be closed July 4 in observance of Independence Day and will reopen July 5 at 10 a.m. under normal business hours.

The book selection for the July Faith Inspired Book Club is the novel "Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt" by Ann Rice. Multiple copies of the book will soon be available. A discussion is planned for July 26 at 9 a.m.

Rice explores Jesus' youth and tells of his family's journey from Egypt to Judea and the requisite strife they encounter along the way.

Morning Book Club will meet July 27 at 9 a.m. to discuss "The Glass Castle: A Memoir by Jeannette Walls." The book is the 2007 selection for Carroll County on the Same Page. Copies of Walls' memoir are available at the main desk.

The book chronicles Walls' upbringing at the hands of eccentric, nomadic parents.

For information on these and other programs, call the library at (765) 564-2929.

Friends of the library

Friends of the Delphi Public Library has installed a framed membership and events list, plus a plaque, just outside of the children's room. Library patrons are encouraged to stop and look at the new installation. For information about joining the Friends, contact Jayne Abbott at (765) 564-3739 or visit the main desk for an application.

Flora-Monroe Township

It's time for America's birthday party. Come to the library on Tuesday, July 3, at 10 a.m. for Preschool Patriotic Fun with Miss Deb to celebrate the Fourth of July early with your children. Deb Foreman of Flora's United Methodist Church Playschool will have fun stories, a patriotic craft to wear, and of course- a parade!

Experience the "It's All About the Circus!" art reception in the library. See the displays filled with the artistic talents of our summer art students this past June. The projects were all inspired by the circus - the animals, the people, the visual artistry of circus posters and wagons. Grace Woodruff taught the classes. The reception will be during normal library hours on July 14.

Pick up your copy of this year's Carroll County on the Same Page selection, "The Glass Castle" by Jeannette Walls. Winner of the 2006 American Library Association Alex Award, "Castle" is a thoughtful and sensitive memoir of Walls' dysfunctional family growing up, told with grace, kindness and a wonderful sense of humor. Don't miss this pageturner! All three county public libraries - Camden, Delphi and Flora - have multiple copies available for checkout.

The theme for next storytime is "Fourth of July." Preschool storytime is Tuesday morning at 10 a.m.

Call Dial-a-Story 24 hours a day to hear great stories! The current story is "Raggylug." Friday the story will change to "The Cat and the Parrot." Call Dial-A-Story, 967-3814.
