Just when you think you've seen it all you find out you haven't!

During the height of the recent mushroom hunting season, Andy Lavy of near Camden found a yellow sponge morel seen in the photo on the left along Deer Creek. He said the morel was lying down, like it had never been upright with the top folded over. Lavy measured it the best he could and found it to be 16 inches from top to bottom (including the fold over) with a 13 inch circumference, weighing 12 ounces. The meat thickness alone was one and a quarter inches.

Lavy's wife, Mary, had to cut the mushroom into thin strips to fry. Lavy said it made two big skillets full and "four of us had all we wanted!"
