Step right up - to library art class
There's one last chance to participate in "It's All About The Circus!" art class at the Flora Public Library.

The last class, for grade seven through adults, is Thursday, June 28, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. All skill levels in art creation are invited. Instructor is Grace Woodruff.

The project for this class will be making a life-size circus figure with a face cut-out so anyone can become the tattoo man, a sword-swallower, bareback rider, highwire walker, juggler, clown, etc.

The class is free, and walkins are welcome.

Woodruff said this summer's art classes were inspired by the work of Picasso and Calder.

"Their whimsical sculptures and 3-D experiments made from junk and "found" objects have become museum pieces, athough the original intent was just for fun," Woodruff said. "Calder utilized his engineering skills for movement in the little characters he created to entertain his friends at parties. Everyone looked forward to the hilarious antics of his circus performers."

Circus art made by the summer reading and adult art classes are on display at the library and will remain there through the finale/open house on July 14 at 10 a.m.

The summer reading program also has the circus theme. The art classes were sponsored by grants from the Tippecanoe Arts Federation and the Carroll County Community Foundation.
