Lessons from the Heart
I Samuel 17:38-45: 'How are we trying to destroy giants?'
By Justin Wagnor

How are we as a church world, as well as a nation, trying to destroy the giants that engulf us? We blame everyone else for our problems, but somehow we fail to look within ourselves. Many people carry much guilt because they have tried solving their own problems in their own way. Anymore, we are afraid of each other. The law enforcement agencies cannot provide the kind of internal security we need. Only God can do that.

First of all, if you are going to be a winner, of which only someone who has accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Savior can win, you cannot be afraid to face the giants in your life. Just going to church and reading your Bible and praying doesn't make you a winner. The Apostle Paul wrote in (Romans 8:37) that we are "more than conquerors." But the only way he found this out was by not living by a bunch of rules. He totally, 100%, surrendered himself to God, and chose to obey God in spite of pain and suffering. In other words, we must learn to apply what we read. Obedience to the Word of God is the only way we can win.

Our scripture for today says that David couldn't put Saul's armor on because it hadn't been proven. To David, the Word of God had been proven. That's all he needed. And, in reality that's all we need because it is all that works.

I challenge you to pick up your Bible and began to read it and ask God to show you how to apply it. He will not only strengthen your faith, but He will turn chaos into victory and you will discover as Paul did that (Romans 8:28) "all things work to the good" for those who love God.
