Local fire investigators earn certification
Comet staff report

Carroll County Emergency Management Office recently hosted a training seminar sponsored by the National Association of Fire Investigators (NAFI).

The training seminar was held to advance local fire investigators in their training, knowledge and certification qualifications to better serve the community. The fire investigation division is comprised of fire investigators from local volunteer fire departments who have combined together. These investigators come from many different backgrounds and have combined their years of training and experience to investigate fires together throughout Carroll and surrounding counties.

Local invesstigators who are now Certified Fire Explosive Investigators include Justin Darling, Darrell Sterrett, James Bishop, Dennis Randle, Roy Mitchell, Ron Wertz, Curtis Borden, Russell Gorbett, and Joe Troutman.

The National Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator Program was instituted on Aug. 11, 1983, in Chicago, Ill., to establish an accepted method and standard of evaluating the qualifications of individuals who are conducting fire, arson and explosion investigations. Since that time the program has grown in recognition and has expanded to provide certification opportunities to NAFImembers, internationally as well as within the United States. There are approximately 4,000 CFEI certified investigators worldwide.
