Bonita K. Stephan

Bonita K. Stephan, 81, formerly of Flora, passed away at 11:25 a.m. Saturday, June 9, 2007. at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center in Delphi.

Born Aug. 1, 1925, in Peru, she was the daughter of Theodore Ross and Mildred Landis Gasaway. She graduated from Wabash High School in 1943 and from Indiana University in 1947.

On Dec. 22, 1946, in Wabash, she married Robert L. Stephan. He preceded her in death exactly one year ago on June 9, 2006.

Mrs. Stephan taught junior high English at Young America and Carroll Junior High School for 21 years, retiring from Carroll in 1982.

Along with her husband, she owned Stephan's IGA in Flora since 1958. She had traveled extensively with her husband and spent many winters in Fort Myers, Fla.

Mrs. Stephan was a member of the Flora Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of Beta Alpha Chapter of Psi Iota Xi sorority in Flora and a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority at Indiana University.

She is survived by her mother, Mildred Gasaway of Flora; one son, Trent Stephan (wife: Stephanie) of Flora; one daughter, Cynthia K. Walton (husband: Dr. Guy) of Lynchburg, Va.; and one grandson, Geoffrey Lester of Los Angeles, Calif.

She was preceded in death by a son, Captain Gary Stephan, and a brother, Theodore Gasaway Jr.

Services were held Tuesday morning at the Flora Presbyterian Church with Pastor Charles Compton officiating. Burial was at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Flora.

Memorial contributions may be made to either the Flora Presbyterian Church or to the Carroll Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Reinke Funeral Home, Flora, was in charge of arrangements.
