Carroll Y announces closing of its daycare As part of a restructuring plan, the Carroll County YMCA Board of Directors is announcing the closing of its daycare program at the close of business on June 22. According to Carroll County YMCA board president Teddy Huffer, last December the local Y hired the Lafayette YMCA to provide counsel and constructive in-depth experience to explore various ways to improve the facility. "The daycare staff has worked very had to provide ideas to improve the daycare program," said Huffer. "The board recognizes and very much appreciates all of the efforts made, but the fact remains that the program is losing money on a monthly basis." The Y will continue its Summer Day Camp program. Parents with children ages five to 12 who are affected by the closing may transfer them to the Summer Day Camp, now in its fifth summer. The five-day a week program includes four days of activities in the facility and one field trip. The Y is also offering to work with those who need help placing their child in another facility. As part of the restructuring plan, Huffer said the board of directors is completing plans to open an activities room. The room will provide added services to teens and youth while they are waiting on other family members who may be participating in other Y activities in the facility. The Y also recently added a child watch program that is available Monday through Friday for two hours each evening. "This service is designed to help member families enjoy the benefits of their membership while their young children are in the care of our Child Watch center," added Huffer. The daycare staff includes a director and six part-time employees. |
