James C. Archibald

James C. Archibald, 90, of 7194E 475N, Camden, passed away at 8:25 a.m. Thursday, May 31, 2007, at his residence.

Born Sept. 22, 1916, in Washington Twp., Carroll County, he was he son of Homer and Olive Cotner Archibald. He married Claribel Delaplane on April 14, 1946, in Lafayette. She preceded him in death on June 12, 1983.

Mr. Archibald graduated from Royal Center High School in 1934. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army from 1943-46 in the 704th tank destroyer battalion. He was attached to the 4th armor division of Patton's 3rd Army.

Following his service, Mr. Archibald was a salesman for Kraft Foods Inc. for 28 years.

He was a member of the Burlington Church of Christ, was an elder for 34 years, and served in other positions in the church.

He was a member of the American Legion in Burlington and Logansport.

Surviving are two sons, John Archibald of Monticello and Kevin Archibald of Clearwater, Fla.; one daughter, Vonda Downing (husband: Ron) of Vevay; three grandchildren, Stephanie Good (husband: Rich), Lindsay Calhoun (husband: Jason) and Joshua Downing, and five greatgrandchildren. He is also survived by his special friends, Florence Myers of Logansport and Jim and Josephine Delaplane of Flora. He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Services were Monday at the Burlington Church of Christ with Pastor Tim Pohlman officiating. Burial was in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Flora, with military graveside rites provided by the Kokomo VFW Military Rites Team. Memorial donations may be made to the Burlington Church of Christ, the Heart Association or the Lung Association.

Reinke Funeral Home, Flora, was in charge of arrangements.
