DCHS top scholars named
Both valedictorian Shannon Kremer and salutatorian Brianne Stauffer received Academic Honors Diplomas and addressed attendees during commencement May 26. Kremer is the daughter of Kevin and Bernadette Kremer of rural Delphi. She provided livestock husbandry for hogs and cattle at K&B Kremer Farms for the past seven years. During commencement, Kremer received the following awards and scholarships: Air Force Mathematics and Science Award; Delphi American Legion Post #75 U.S. History and Government Award; Indiana Packers Scholarship; WIOA/Officials Scholarship; 4-H Foundation Scholarship; Army Reserve National Scholar/Athlete Award; Purdue University College of Agriculture Scholarship of Excellence; Carroll County Farm Bureau Scholarship; Hoosier Scholar Scholarship; Purdue University Valedictorian Scholarship; Camden Women's Literary Club Scholarship; Math and Science awards; Varsity D fouryear Award; Core 40 Award; a chevron, second place Bradshaw English Award; and Certificate
A four-year member of the varsity swim team, Kremer was captain one year and set multiple school records in the sport. She also coached the Monticello Strokers summer swim team since May 2006. She was president for two of her 10 years in 4-H. She was also treasurer for two years in the Deer Creek Delphinium 4- H Club. Kremer earned distinguished honor roll distinction for four years, was a three-year member of French Club, a member of the National Honor Society for two years and was on yearbook staff for three years, including one year as editor. She competed for two years in Math Superbowl and Science Superbowl and served as captain in each for one year. She was a member of the English Superbowl team for one year. Kremer was a Junior Rotarian for a year and a member of Junior Leaders for six years. She was class representative for two years and president for two years as a charter member of Key Club. She was presented the 4-H Key Club award. She also received the Indiana State 4-H Fair Achievement Award and 4-H Project Achievement Awards. Kremer volunteered for several local programs and organizations including Carroll County Extension Board, Rake and Run, Carroll Manor, Freshman Mentor Program, National Cancer Society/National Honor Society Daffodil Drive, Carroll County Christmas Baskets, Shock Days, National Teacher Appreciation Day and Earth Day. Kremer said after she received her four-year degree she would like to further her education by pursuing a degree in Veterinary Science. She hopes to open her own veterinarian practice where she would work mainly with large animals. Stauffer is the daughter of William Stauffer and Katrina Coghill of rural Delphi. She has worked at Pearson's Marina in Monticello since January 2003. Awards and scholarships Stauffer received during commencement included: Indiana Packers Corp. Community Foundation Scholarship; Delphi Rotary Scholarship; Whiteman Memorial Athletic Award; Delphi Lions Athletic Award; Delphi Girls' Softball Scholarship; Student Council Scholarship; William Samuel Kerlin Scholarship; Hoosier Scholar Scholarship; a chevron; and Varsity D four-year Award. Stauffer was senior class president. She was team captain of the girls' basketball team, was part of the White County All-Tournament Team and All- Hoosier Conference. In track and field, Stauffer was team captain, regional qualifier, Norm Ebrite Hurdle Champion, most valuable sprinter and set a school record in the sport. She helped attain the sectional championship for the softball team. As team captain of the volleyball team, she was presented save percentage and defensive awards. She was also team captain of the 2006 state champion dance team. Stauffer showed swine during her 10 years as a 4-H member. She was also a member of French Club, National Honor Society, Pep Club, Student Council and Students Against Drunk Driving. She was team captain for Battle of the Books and a member of concert band and the marching band/color guard. Class president from 2005 to 2007, she was junior prom chairperson, a Junior Rotarian and Junior Marshall. Stauffer volunteered for Fishing Has No Boundaries, American Cancer Society Daffodil fundraiser, National Honor Society Blood Drive, Carroll County Fair Clean-up, Gifts for Marines, Community Christmas Baskets, Habitat for Humanity, Hurricane Katrina Relief, Senior Citizens Prom, Rake and Run and Pride Days/Shock Days. She was a junior poms instructor, Little Lady Oracle coach and summer camp counselor, Little Lady Oracle Volleyball Camp counselor and was part of the Teacher's Appreciation Committee. |
