Faith and togetherness yield successful conference
Photos and story by Kevin Schnepp, Carroll County Comet

Old German Baptist Brethren heritage places value in commitment to the teachings of Christ and strength of community. Both were displayed through tent-raisings, worship services, meals, fellowship and a business meeting during the church's annual conference held May 26 to 29 near Rossville.

Children watched and learned while male brethren installed seating in dining facilities and worship areas during tentraising day 48 hours prior to the meeting's official start. Minutes after the dining area was established, church women began to prepare a midday meal for workers and visitors.

Many out-of-town visitors from across the nation found lodging in the homes of local church members. Each facet of the four day program was choreographed so members could take part in each activity and still make time to interact with old friends and make new ones.

Monday morning, 105 delegates representing 54 individual congregations met to organize the business portion of the conference. Twelve elders were chosen to preside over the Tuesday business meeting. Each member was allowed to express his viewpoint on issues raised. Smaller groups of delegates then proposed answers.

Upon completion of the conference, workers will reverse the process of installation to remove facilities put in place for the event. Reusable items will be kept in storage until next year's conference in Kansas.
