Kenneth W. Murray
Born Oct. 21, 1932, in Carlton, Texas, he was the son of Horace and Mable Gibson Murray. He graduated from Wills Point (Texas) High School and from Texas A&M with a bachelor's degree in animal science in 1954. While at Texas A&M, he played basketball for two years. He was married on Sept. 24, 1955, in Fort Collins, Colo., to Dorothy Spencer, who died Dec. 21, 1990. On April 27, 2001, in Delphi, he married Joyce A. Lamb Sullivan, and she survives. Mr. Murray was employed by Ralston Purina Co. from 1967 to 1971. He worked for Yeager & Sullivan Farms until 1976. From 1977 to 1983, he owned and operated Premier Feeds in Monticello, and then worked at Hubbard Milling Co. in Marion from 1983 to 1987. He moved to Modesto, Calif., to work for Purina Mills and retired from there in 1998. He moved back to Delphi in the spring of 2000, and was a real estate agent for Rinehart Realtors & Auctioneers' Delphi office for two years. Mr. Murray was as member of the Delphi United Methodist Church, the Wesley Wed. Sunday School Class and was their Sunday School class teacher, Delphi Rotary Club, and was extremely active and a past president of the Carroll County Gideons. He loved his family, and enjoyed spending time with them, and watching his grandkids' sporting events. He also enjoyed vegetable gardening, his fruit trees, and sports. Surviving with his wife are a daughter, Cynthia Elder (husband: Jeff) of Fairfax, Va.; three sons, Jim Murray (wife: Becky) of Hodgenville, Ky., Tim S. Murray and Dave Murray (wife: Angie), all of Delphi; a stepdaughter, Keltie Domina (husband: Joe) of Westfield; three stepsons, Scott Sullivan (wife: Julie) of Carmel, Jon W. Sullivan of Delphi, and Dr. David Sullivan (wife: Leah) of Carbondale, Ill.; seven grandchildren; and 11 stepgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, H.G. Murray. A memorial service was held Tuesday evening at the Delphi United Methodist Church. The Rev. Todd Ladd officiated. His ashes will be taken back to Marvine Lake in Meeker, Colo., to be with his first wife, Dorothy. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Carroll County Gideons. Abbott Funeral Home, Delphi, was in charge of arrangements. |
