4-H News Youth interested in wildlife, fishing, forestry, shooting sports, soil and water conservation and outdoor cookery are invited to attend the Area 8 Conservation Day at France Park, Logansport, on June 14. Contact the extension office at (765) 564-3169 by June 8 to help the group solidify lunch plans. Poultry Workshop Poultry members should plan to attend a workshop June 7 at 7 p.m. on the east side of the 4-H Community Building in Flora. Members should bring their project books. Rabbit Ambassador Contest The Rabbit Ambassador Contest will be June 9 at 9:30 a.m. at the east end of the 4-H Community Building in Flora. 4-Hers are reminded to bring showmanship rabbit and record sheet. Judging will include a test, breed identification, showmanship and resume. Junior Open Beef Show Carroll County 4-H Exhibit Association will sponsor a Junior Open Beef Show June 9 at the fairgrounds in Flora. Cattle may be brought after 7 a.m. Weighing will be from 8:30 to 11 a.m. The show will begin at 2 p.m. All Indiana residents 8 through 21 years of age are eligible to show. Contact the extension office for a show flier. Deer Creek Delphiniums Deer Creek Delphiniums held an open meeting where older 4- Hers displayed previous years' projects and answered questions from newer 4-Her's. The leaders also answered questions. Thirtyfive members signed in and the following older 4-Hers brought projects: Nick Banes brought a rat for the pocket pet project; his brother displayed his Sponge Bob collection; Brooke Beale discussed her forestry poster and soil & water poster; Kaitlin Begley showed her rocket; Danielle Kelley brought her scrapbooks; and Abbie Price brought in her cat. The club performed a Hee Haw skit at the annual Share the Fun contest. Twenty-five club members participated. The skit won first place in the group division of the county level contest and second place in same division at the area level contest. The club met May 17. Kayli Reef and Elijah Darling led the pledges. Members were reminded to fill out the add and drop project form by the June 1 deadline. The leaders discussed project completion requirements and judging details. Service projects have been scheduled. The club planted a garden at Carroll Manor after school Monday. Tuesday club members will clean up their two Adopt-a-Spots after school. The club also will plant new windbreak trees at Carroll Manor on June 16. Members interested in helping with service projects, should contact the leaders. The next club meeting will be June 14, tentatively scheduled at the Yeoman Putt-Putt. |
