McDonald's restaurant in Delphi will have its grad opening next Wednesday.

The doors will open at 6 a.m. and the first 200 customers will receive free McDonald's mugs. Ronald McDonald will arrive at 6 p.m. to greet the children.

Having a McDonald's restaurant in the community offers more than fast food and employment. There are scholarship and training opportunities and availability of "Ronald Shows" in the elementary schools. Besides entertainment, the shows teach about such topics as ecology and nutrition.

Unless angels, or an angel, come up with the funds, it appears that neither Delphi nor Flora will have their annual fireworks displays on July 4th.

According to officials of the Flora Community Club and the Delphi Chamber of Commerce, neither organization fells it has the funds for the extravaganzas.

Officials from Camden, Delphi and Flora have already started making plans for fireworks in the future with each of the communities to host the display each third year.

In addition, plans are underway to make the Fourth of July more than just a fireworks display. Presently, thoughts are that activities in the hosting community should start early, at least by noon, and continue the rest of the day with a fish fry or some such event in the evening.

A new teachers' salary schedule was adopted Monday night by the Delphi-Deer Creek township school board.

The new schedule provided an increase of $300 to $400 for beginning teachers with comparable increases for those with different years' experience. Beginning teachers with A.B. or B.S. degree with be started at $3,900 for a nine months' contract. For those with A.M. or M.S. degrees, a salary of $4,000 is set as compared with $3,600 previously paid. Those with A.B. or B.S degrees and 12 years' experience, may reach a maximum of $4,800.

Those with the higher degrees will receive $4,900 with 12 years' experience but will receive additional pay as their experience increases until those with 20 years' experience receive $5.500.

The new oiled road between State Roads 39 and 29 through Flora has now been completed and is one of the finest in this part of the state.

Many motorists between Delphi and Flora have already started to use this thoroughfare and report it in excellent shape. Very little oil is now thrown on the bumpers or fenders. A new bridge will probably be built east of Flora next year to make the bridge large enough to accommodate the heavy traffic that this road will probably bear.

After a very successful term, the Flora schools closed yesterday, the commencement exercises being held at the opera house, in the presence of a large crowd, even the standing room of the hall being occupied.

Dr. W.L. Bryan, of Franklin college delivered the class address and made a strong plea for higher education. The music was furnished by the noted Purdue orchestra.

The Baccalaureate sermon delivered by Rev. F.L. Holvis at the M.E. church was listened to by one of the largest crowds ever assembled at the church. The address was highly spoken of and showed that much care had been taken in its preparation.

There were fourteen graduates.
