By Kevin Schnepp Staff writer

Delphi Lions Club met May 16 at First Presbyterian Church to celebrate serviceminded community members. Dinner and awards were served to members, guests and honorees in attendance.

Susan Freeman, secondgrade teacher at Hillcrest Elementary, was named Teacher of the Year. She was given a plaque and cash. Her name also will be placed on a plaque at the club's headquarters. Freeman has taught at Hillcrest for 36 years.

Scholarships were awarded to Delphi Community High School seniors Ann Mears and Tom Walton.

Member Dick Bradshaw was presented a lifetime membership award by Lions International.

Bob Quinn was presented a chevron in honor of his 55 years of service to the organization.

Bob Arney received a jacket with the club emblem after being named Lion of the Year. Arney and his sales team took top honors in broom and light bulb sales.

Larry Welborn was given the Melvin Jones award, the highest award a local club can give.

Several members were presented pins to commemorate decades of service.
