Carroll names high school award recipients

Chelsea DeVos is the winner of the Carroll Honor Award.

The award recognizes a graduating senior who is the finest example of a Carroll High School citizen. Criteria for the award includes character, integrity, trustworthiness, courtesy, dependability, cooperation, and faithfulness to the CJSHS tradition.

Carroll Honor Award candidates are nominated by faculty and chosen by the Student Council.

DeVos is the daughter of Chris and Tammy DeVos of Flora.

Her activities have included Drama Club, Sunshine Society, Cougar Blues, and National Honor Society. She also has been Talent Show emcee and performer, a guidance office worker, and helped with Baccalaureate. She is a member of Flora United Methodist Church and assists each year with Vacation Bible School.

She plans to attend Ball State University. Her major is undetermined at this time, but she has set some general goals.

"I want a career in which I can positively change lives and be a good influence. I want to change the world!" she said.

A 21st Century Scholar, she will receive the Academic Honors Diploma.

At the high school awards program, she received the Peace Scholarship, the Charlie Hendrix Memorial Scholarship from Flora Kiwanis, the President's Award for Educational Excellence, and the Cougar Blues first soprano award.
