Business Briefs DALE SEWARD of Flora has re-opened his private investigation agency. He was formerly with the Delphi Police Department for 10 years and also owned North Central Indiana Investigations for six years. He recently was issued a new private detective's license from the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency. He is operating under the name Bob's Investigations, phone (812) 988-8058. Seward conducts general investigations and surveillance, including theft and loss control, insurance fraud, criminal defense, civil situations, divorce, and child custody. He also serves documents, including court papers, and helps businesses with collections. "Using me to do your 'behind the scenes' work frees you up to do the important things that are required of you," Seward said. The LANDMARK RESTAURANT in Pittsburg closed its doors to the public for the last time Friday afternoon and is now for sale. Owners Barb and Dave Spurgeon owned the restaurant for approximately 10 years. Barb Spurgeon said another restaurant could occupy the space. "I would love to see someone come in and make a go of the restaurant," Spurgeon said. However if no buyer is found, the location could be redesigned to accommodate another use. Spurgeon explained the business closed due to financial reasons brought on by lagging sales. "It a hard time out there these days," she said, citing the price of gasoline as one reason people did not visit the eatery as frequently as in times past. She said the employees have found other jobs also. "It all has to come to an end sooner or later," she said tearfully. "We are sorry to have to do this, but it was a business decision." "We really appreciate our customers throughout the years," she concluded. Carroll County Jail Commander LORI SUSTARSIC and MAJ. TOBE LEAZENBY recently attended a National Sheriff's Association "Jail Evacuation Planning and Implementation" training sponsored by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office in Richmond. Course modules included 'Terrorism and weapons of mass destruction' and 'Understanding the threat and planning.' Sheriff Burns commented, "By having our jail administration staff attend this type of training and other related training, we can be better prepared in the advent of a crisis as it relates to our facility. It is yet another example of us making the effort to improve our agency." |
