Letters to the Editor
Leave historical society monies alone

Carroll County is in a state of financial crisis. It appears that at least one member of the Carroll County Council believes that picking up the donations given to the Carroll County Historical Society could be part of the solution.

Aside from the fact that this would probably be illegal, since the historical society is a 501-c- 3 non-profit corporation whose funds cannot be given to another type of entity; it is ridiculous to think that the $10 to $20 per month that the society collects would help solve the county's problems.

Since it is obvious that the council is inept when it comes to solving the financial problems of the county, perhaps a better idea would be that the county not pay them their salaries until the problem is solved. Maybe then they would take it seriously; not in trivial manners like wanting to infringe into the operations of a private non-profit society.
