Award-winning ArchiCamp offered at Delphi Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana and the Wabash & Erie Canal Interpretive Center will offer a two-day Archi- Camp for children ages 8-12 on June 26 and 27 at the Canal Interpretive Center in Delphi. Participants will spend both days- from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.- discovering the history of Delphi and its landmark architecture. Campers will travel back in time to the nineteenth century when they climb aboard a canal boat, then board a trolley for a tour of Delphi's historic architecture, and a visit to the old Opera House. Hands-on crafts include making decorative plaster medallions and constructing a town with model buildings constructed from recycled materials. The ArchiCamp program received a "Leadership in History Award" from the American Association of State and Local History in 2006. The award represents the most prestigious recognition for achievement in the preservation and interpretation of state and local history in the United States. Enrollment for the camp is limited to 20 children. Reservations must be made by June 22; contact Suzanne Stanis at Historic Landmarks Foundation, 800-450-4534 or stanis@ historiclandmarks.org. Cost of the camp is $25 and includes refreshments, educational materials, and souvenirs. Participants should bring a sack lunch each day. |
