Evelyn C. Sharp
Born on Dec. 21, 1907, in F r a n k f o r t , she was the daughter of Valentine Franklin and Mamie Osterday Cohee. She was raised in Indiana and graduated from Camden High School. She attended Indiana Teacher's College in Indianapolis (Madame Blaker's), where she received a teaching degree. She taught at Washington and Carrollton township schools in Carroll County. On June 30, 1929, in Camden, she married James M. Sharp. They resided in Camden, except for six years when they owned and operated a grocery store in Michigantown. Mrs. Sharp was a member of the First Baptist Church of Camden for 86 years and was an active member of the Baptist Woman's Missionary Circle. She was a 70-year member of the Camden Woman's Literary Club, which founded the Camden Public Library. Surviving are three children, Robert G. Sharp (wife: Barbara) of Hamilton, Va., Bill Sharp (wife: Peg) of Longmont, Colo., and Marcia Beckett (husband: Mike) of Oklahoma City, Okla.; five grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren; and a nephew, Dennis D. Laxton. She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Frances Laxton, a grandson, and a great-grandson. Services will be held at 3 p.m. today, Wednesday, at Cree Funeral Home, Camden. Pastor Paul Marcellino will officiate. Interment will follow at Camden Cemetery. Friends may call prior to the service from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Camden or to the Camden Public Library. |
