PTO donations recognized Carroll School Board officially accepted Carroll Elementary PTO's donations of equipment and supplies at a regular board meeting May 1. The PTO reported a profit of $9,625.55 from trash bag sales this school year, 2006-2007. Purchased items include a Weather- Hawk weather station, web cam, library tables, and Smart Board. Last year's trash bag profits were $7,448.12, and the PTO purchased a Smart Board. In 2004-2005, PTO reported trash bag profits of $8,214.83, and purchased drop microphones, two digital cameras, a hearing machine, and playground equipment. Board member Barb Payne spoke for the board in thanking PTO members for their hard work and for the items purchased for the school. In other business, the board will advertise for bids for a temporary loan for the general fund, if needed, not to exceed $800,000. Superintendent John Sayers said the action is necessary so the budget won't be in the red if the corporation doesn't get its full tax draw by June 30. Any money borrowed will be repaid by Dec. 31, 2007. The board adopted the corporation Advertising Policy and Student Fundraising Policy. Both policies are posted on the corporation Web site. Robert Kelly Inc. was approved for paving, re-coating, and repair work on the corporation's parking lots. Kelly had the low bid for the project - $41,773.75. The board approved the purchase of a risograph for the elementary school. The cost is $5,795. A risograph is a heavy duty duplicating machine. Rob Appleton was hired on a one-year contract for summer mowing and lawn care at a cost of $15,449.76. Elizabeth Rose has been hired as Carroll Jr.-Sr. High School Spanish teacher for the 2007- 2008 school year. She is the wife of Carroll's newly hired athletic director, Shaun Rose. She has been teaching Spanish at Mc- Cutcheon High School. The following were hired for summer help: Amanda Schneckloth, summer swim team coach and summer swim lessons; Jennifer Hardyniec and Adam Bonner, swim lesson assistants; Holly Marcum, tape books/indoor work; Clinton Bernier, outdoor work; Nicole Spesard and Lindsay Stiller, bus cleaning. The following teachers and aides were hired for the K-6 Jump Start program: Myra Compton, Andrea O'Brien, Kara Burrous, Diane Routt, Jenelle Gish, Kathy Shuler, Mike Hyman, Sarina Herron, Shannon Hodson. Permission was given for a Golf Camp June 4-7 for boys and girls in grades 6-8. The request was made by Tom Hedde. The following high school field trips were approved: · Susan Shively, Stacey Brazel, Kelly Hillman, Katie Seward and Linda Harrold - take ninth grade class on a tour of Caterpillar and Ivy Tech in Lafayette May 8. This is in connection with a careers class. · Joe Spence - take Cougar Blues seniors to Beef & Boards Dinner Theater May 9. · Cindy Reinke - take the FCCLA state officer to the Spring State Executive Council Meeting May 9 in Indianapolis. The next regular board meeting will be May 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the Administration Building. |
