Ceremonial tree planting
Community members planted a Black Gum Tree in commemoration of National Arbor Day last week on Delphi Middle School grounds in honor of National Arbor Day. The ceremony was part of an April 26 program hosted by the seventh grade. The tree was donated to the middle school by the Delphi Forestry Commission and was put into the ground near the outdoor lab behind the school. Delphi students have planted more than 20,000 trees in and around the city in the past ten years, according to sponsor and seventh grade teacher Alan McConnell. Working hard to ensure a proper beginning for the tree, from left to right, are Delphi City Council member William Miller, council president Carolyn Pearson, council member Carol Dickman, student Stefany Mayhew, middle school principal Robert De- LaRosa, superintendent Ralph Walker and forestry commission members Kyle Germond and Faye Underhill. DNR Urban Forester Pam Louks is in front holding the tree.
