A gasoline rupture and subsequent explosion at 10911W US 421N, closed the highway from the north side of Pittsburg Bridge to the junction of US421 and SR 18, from 11:35 a.m. to 1:47 p.m. Tuesday.

Upon arrival at the scene, Delphi Tri-Township Fire Department found flames shooting ten feet into the air and obtained explosive readings at the point of the roadway.

NIPSCO, dispatched digging crews t the site to shut the gas main off and the fire was extinguished.

It was determined that a raccoon entered a groundhog hole and the resident, who was in pursuit of a raccoon, stuck newspaper in the hole and lit it, resulting in an explosion. It is believed that a gas leak had existed for an undetermined amount of time. The resident was not injured.

Over 100 people took advantage of the Carroll County Farm Bureau offer of a 37 cent Farm- City Day breakfast at Honan Hall in Delphi. The breakfast, which was served for the amount the farmer gets for his products on the farm, included two eggs, two strips of bacon, two slices of toast, 8 ounces of milk and 4 ounces of orange juice.

The Delphi Community High School band marched in the Kentucky Derby Pegasus Parade in Louisville. Five miles of marching left sore feet and tired muscles to 72 band and 14 flag and rifle corps members. The group also gave a concert in a downtown plaza on Friday morning.

Bill and Al both live in the country near Delphi, they both work in Delphi, they both like horses and they both like beer. Their common interests have made them friends. But their judgment on the monetary value of a colt, owned by Bill and wanted by Al, varied greatly. Bill thought it was worth twice what Al wanted to pay and Al thought it was only worth half of what Bill asked. Finally Al bargained: "How many bottles of beer for the colt?" An "ear-witness" reported that Bill answered 800", after mentally figuring that 800 times .25 would give his full $200 asking price. "It's a deal" or words to that effect was Al's reply and straightway he went to a distributor, bought and paid for 33 cases and 8 bottles of beer, total 800 bottles. Bill was notified but didn't want it. Al's check has been cashed and he has no inclination to get it back. The colt is in a neutral pasture.

At the time of death of Abner T. Bowen he owned 96% of the capital stock of the bank of A.T. Bowen & Co. and Joseph Been owned 4% of said capital stock. The administrators of the estate contracted with Joseph Been for his interest in the bank and the Court has approved that contract so that now the estate of Abner T. Bowen is the sole owner of the assets of the bank and the estate has assumed and agreed to pay all the liabilities against the bank of A.T. Bowen.

The question as to whether a new bank will be organized in Delphi or whether the old bank will be liquidated is yet to be determined. The administrators filed a petition with the Carroll circuit court, which petition set out that there are more than enough liquid assets to pay every depositor in the A.T. Bowen & Co. bank in full, and close to $1,000,000 besides.

The Delphi opera house block was sold to Artie McCain for a consideration of $11,000. It is very probable now that the Dramatic Club of that place will rent the opera house and use it next winter.
