Honored for outstanding volunteer service

Blackburn
Air Force Reserve Lt. Col. Joette D. Daugherty has been awarded the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal for performing continued outstanding volunteer community service.

The medal was created to recognize exceptional community support over an extended period of time, instead of recognizing a single act or event.

Colonel Daugherty distinguished herself in the performance of outstanding volunteer service to the Dayton, Ohio, community of a sustained direct, and consequential nature while assigned to the Joint Transportation Reserve Unit at Scott Air Force Base, Belleville, Ill. She served as the Girl Scouts of Buckeye Trails Council Product and sales consultant trainer and ensured that more than 400 adult volunteers were prepared to conduct troop sales totaling $1.2 million boxes of cookies. She managed the Girl Scout product delivery for the entire Greene County, scheduling 105 troops to pick up more than 112,000 packages of cookies, nuts, and candy in a five-hour period. She was the Girl Scout Beavercreek North Product sales consultant, she received and processed orders from 52 troops biannually, providing nearly $34,000 in troop profits.

Daugherty is the 954th Reserve Support Squadron commander, U.S. Transportation Command at Scott Air Force Base. The colonel has served in the military for 17 years.

A native of Wyoming, she is married to Roger Daugherty, son of Roger L. Daugherty of Flora, and Jane A. Montgomery of Angola.
