Carroll hires athletic director
By Jennifer Archibald Staff writer
Carroll School Corporation has named a new athletic director.

Rose
S h a u n Rose, a native of Elkhart and now of L a f a y e t t e , will officially begin his duties July 1.

He has been a physical education teacher at Clinton Prairie Elementary School, Frankfort, for the past three years. Along with teaching, he has also coached seventh and eighth grade football and seventh grade basketball there. He formerly was varsity girls' tennis coach at Rossville High School. He also formerly was a volunteer soccer coach for the YMCA in Elkhart.

In 2001, Rose was a supplemental instructor at Indiana University of South Bend, offering extra help to Spanish 101 students.

He is American Red Cross certified in first aid and CPR.

Rose graduated from Purdue University in 2004 with a liberal arts degree. He has a physical education teaching license for grades K-12.

He is pursuing a master's degree in education and a principal licensure from Indiana Wesleyan University, with an expected graduation date of April 2008.

Rose said he is an active member of the Indiana Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance, and he's interested in all sports.

"I'm looking forward to coming in and making a successful athletic program for the Carroll Consolidated School Corporation," Rose said.

As a way to bring in more funds for the Athletic Department, he said he plans to organize volunteers to run a concessions booth at the RCA Dome during the Colts Season. He said coaches, students, teachers and parents could be involved. Rose added that he was involved with that same project at Clinton Prairie, and it was a successful moneymaker.

He and his wife, Elizabeth, have one daughter, Isabella, age two. His wife teaches Spanish at McCutcheon High School.

Rose said they have their Lafayette home on the market and would like to move closer to the Carroll area.

Although his contract begins July 1, he has been hired for 20 additional days after school is out at Clinton Prairie. He said he plans to work with Carroll's interim AD, Bob Cornell, before he leaves.

"I want to get myself acclimated to see what needs to be done to have a successful program," he said.

He plans to attend some of Carroll's spring sports events, including the Delphi Relays on April 28.
