Delphi JV opens softball season with win

The Oracle Junior Varsity softball team kicked off the 2007 season with a 14-10 victory over the North White Vikings there Monday night.

The Oracle defense played solid behind the pitching of Haley Lind, who ended the game with 8 strikeouts and the win. The offense was on good pace as well as the Oracles racked up 14 hits, led by Kara Schwartzkopf's 3 hits and 2 RBIs. Danielle Burge, Cassi Oliver and Jana Back also had multiple hits.

The top of the fifth inning proved to be worth the price of admission. The game was tied at 7 runs each when Sammie Mayhew's single paved the way for a 5-run rally to secure the Oracle win.

JV Coach Bill Maynard was proud of his team and said, "All 12 of our girls contributed to this victory in a major way, and we just can't say enough about them. We are extremely proud of every single one of them."
