Delphi 'Thinks Arby's' The long-awaited end to the period of vacancy and rumors concerning the former Hardee's building at the junction of SRs 18 and 25 in Delphi is here. Building owner Harold Klinkhamer signed a contract April 3 and is officially 'thinkin' Arby's.' Klinkhamer said an Arby's franchiser expressed interest in the building last November. The only delay was the wait for the okay from corporate headquarters. Lafayette, Monticello and local entities expressed interest in the building, according to Klinkhamer. However, community job opportunities and food alternatives offered by Arby's was more attractive Klinkhamer, longtime local resident and the building's owner. "Everyone had their own opinion on what it should be, but John Wade (Arby's franchise owner) has been really insistent about the whole idea," Klinkhamer said. "It's a relief to know that a major food chain is coming in and offers the best occupancy for the building," he said. Klinkhamer admitted prior to Arby's proposal he could not recollect dining at an Arby's. Recently he visited one in West Lafayette and tried a roast beef sandwich. He spoke with employees and viewed the building's interior layout. He said he has received only positive feedback about the business. Klinkhamer said that except for some painting and a new roof, no major building renovations are needed and only small cosmetic changes will be made. Once renovation begins it will be approximately ten weeks before locals can expect to devour a sandwich, milkshake and a curly fry of their own. |
