MADD selects two troopers for awards
Comet staff report

Two troopers from the Lafayette State Police Post were selected by MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Drivers) for their hard work and dedication to get drunk drivers off the road.

The awards were presented at the annual Top Cop Awards Wednesday afternoon by the West Central Indiana Chapter of MADD at the Lafayette City Hall.

Senior Trooper Aaron Mc- Cormick and Master Trooper Tim Kendall lead the Lafayette State Police Post with 41 DUI arrests apiece. There were 142 total drunk driver arrests in Tippecanoe County by troopers at Lafayette Post. Between the five departments, there were 1101 total arrests for DUI and 1342 arrests for Public Intoxication in Tippecanoe County.

The two Troopers were recognized along with officers from Purdue Police, Lafayette Police, West Lafayette Police and Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Department. Officers with at least 20 DUI arrest or the high DUI arrests from the departments received awards.

Last year in Tippecanoe County, four innocent individuals were killed as a result of being at the wrong place at the wrong time due to an impaired driver. A total of 11 individuals lost their lives because of a impaired driver.

To report an impaired driver, call 911, your local police department or the Indiana State Police.
