Weighing and measuring
Carroll Elementary fourth graders took part in a four-week nutrition project involving two albino laboratory rats. One was fed milk and the other was fed sugar water. The rats also were introduced to an identical new food group each week. The students regularly weighed the rats and measured their tails. Pictured at this task are Alyssa Wood and Andrew Plank. The classes learned that the milk-fed rat gained weight at a steady rate and its tail grew longer. The other rat gained weight faster, teaching the lesson that a diet high in sugar can lead to increased weight gain. Comet photo by Jennifer Archibald
