Comet staff report

She plans to attend the University of Notre Dame or Purdue University to pursue a degree in civil engineering.

She has a passion for the elderly and takes her job responsibilities seriously at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center in Delphi. She plans to attend DePauw University in the fall to pursue a degree in biology.

The scholarships have been made available to students across the state of Indiana due to the generosity of Lilly Endowment who delegated the task of administering scholarship dollars at the county level. The Carroll County Community Foundation defined its criteria based on the Endowment's stated goal to "raise the level of educational attainment in Indiana." The criteria identified by the Foundation and used in the selection process were scholastic achievements; school, community, and work activities; essay; financial need; and an interview.

There were 19 qualified and eligible Carroll County students who applied for the scholarship. A committee of volunteers evaluated the applications and selected seven finalists who were interviewed by the Carroll County Community Foundation board and scholarship committee.

The other finalists were: Tyler Jenkins, son of Lyle Jenkins and the late Cheryl Jenkins, a senior at Carroll Jr.- Sr. High School; Britney LaFollette, daughter of Kim LaFollette and John LaFollette, a senior at Delphi Community High School; Alyssa Miller, daughter Lisa Dague and Brian Miller, a senior at Twin Lakes High School; Caitlin Pritchett, daughter of Kimberley Dillman and step-daughter of Daniel Dillman, a senior at Delphi Community High School; and Nicole Spesard, daughter of Lance and Debra Spesard, a senior at Carroll Jr.- Sr. High School.

Each finalist has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the Carroll County Community Foundation.
