Meetings
Carroll County Republican Women

Indiana First Lady Cheri Daniels was the guest speaker for the March 19 meeting of the Carroll County Republican Women. The annual membership drive was held at Gracie's Restaurant in Flora.

First Lady Daniels spoke of the Heart to Heart Program, The 10 for 10 Program, and the importance of being a healthy Republican woman. The First Lady also provided those attending an opportunity to purchase the "Family First Cookbook, Recipes from Indiana's First Lady Cheri Daniels."

The First Lady signed each cookbook and was also available for pictures. Proceeds from the cookbook are being used for the renovation costs of the Governor's Residence, helping to save money for the taxpayers of Indiana.

Karen Hilton (co-chair with Deb Mears) described the 2007 fundraiser for the scholarship fund. Three sets of Kensington Collection patterned duffel bags and large totes will be the prizes for the fundraiser. Suzanne Middleton of Calico Plus in Delphi will provide the bags at a reduced price, with the bags being offered at the 4- H fair in July, Old Settlers in August, and also at the Burlington Fall Festival in September. No other business was discussed.

The next meeting will be April 18 at 12:30 p.m. at Solomon's Grill in Delphi.

Flora Lions Club

Forty-five members, spouses and guests of Flora Lions Club attended the club's 40th anniversary celebration held March 20 in Lafayette. Entertainment was provided by Beck and Robertson.

Norm Beck and Roger Beckner were presented with the W.P. Wood Award by Camden Lion and Indiana Lions Foundation President Bill Penn and State Representative Vern Tincher, who is also a Trustee of the Indiana Lions Foundation. This award is presented only to those Lions who demonstrate a high degree of effort in the promotion of Lionism and the practice of the organization's motto - We Serve.

Beck and Beckner each spoke, highlighting incidents from the club over the past 40 years.

At a recent board meeting, Tom Kressley gave an update on the Maple Lawn flagpole project. Due to an increase in the cost of materials, more donations may be needed. Memorial Day is still a viable date to complete the project.

Hog Jog assignments are progressing for the annual event set for June 16. Gale Ennis is collecting T-shirt ad revenue. Carroll County Pork Producers will again provide pork burgers at the Hog Jog.

The Delphi Chamber of Commerce wants to do a "Transportation Festival" during the Hog Jog. Susan Shively will follow up for more details.

Burlington Kiwanis

Dan McCain, president of the Wabash & Erie Canal Association, will be guest speaker at the Kiwanis Club's 7:30 a.m. breakfast meeting on Saturday. Meetings are held each Saturday morning at 7:30 at the Burlington fire station.

The club's annual community Easter Egg Hunt will be Saturday at the park. The hunt starts promptly at 1 p.m.

Also on Saturday, the club will have its annual Pork Tenderloin Dinner, starting at 4:30 p.m. at the Burlington Park Community Building.

The club sponsored the Burlington community Red Cross Blood Drive on March 27. Thirty-five pints of blood were donated, exceeding the 30-pint goal. Burlington Faith Church of Christ donated food for the Red Cross staff lunch and refreshments for the donors. The Burlington Community Club provided the building, and Kiwanis Club members helped with the set up, tear down, and manning the check in/refreshment area. The next Red Cross blood drive in Burlington will be June 26 from 1 to 6:30 p.m.
