A group of county residents are challenging a permit issued by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management granting Top Sow, a 2,400-sow confinement feeding operation, to build the facility in their neighborhood located at CRs 200 W and 300 N in Jackson Township.

Investors in the $3 million Top Sow project want to combine farrowing operations of several member farmers at a co-op location and then raise the pigs to market weight at their own farms. Neighbors for a Clean Environment contend that the hog waste lagoons at the co-op site may leak in the sandy soil and cause groundwater contamination.

The group has delayed the Top Sow project for over a year. Both sides have hired attorneys.

The new Vocational Agricultural Wing at Delphi Community High School will be open to the public this Sunday.

The new wing was built in the same architectural pattern as the main high school and administration building.

The new wing is 22,489 square feet built at a cost of $76.36 per square foot. Actual construction costs were $1,722,245, loose equipment cost was $80,000 and architect fee, $125,787, making a total of $1,928,032.

An agriculture shop, small engine repair and greenhouse are a part of the structure. Four classrooms have acoustically treated moveable walls that can be rearranged to make one large space.

The Delphi Oracles won the 1957 Kokomo Sectional Championship, defeating Northwestern 43 to 40 after disposing Kokomo in the afternoon 65 to 55.

Delphi high school and its basketball team received letters from Northwestern and Eastern high schools apparently signed by all of the students in the school wishing the Oracles success in the Regional tourney. We know the Oracles, the school and the fans appreciate this excellent spirit.

Cutler failed to get her entry list in and as a result the Carroll county sectional basketball tourney will have but eight teams this year. This makes a perfect draw as no team gets a "bye" and any team must play three games to win. However all schools will regret the absence of Cutler.

The big show opens Friday night. Carrollton and Rockfield take the floor for the opener. Carrollton as winner of the county championship will rule the favorite in this game. Next Adams township and Flora will meet. There is little hope for the Adams boys here as they are weak this year and Flora is represented by what is probably the best team in the history of the school. Saturday morning at 9:00 Camden and Delphi will warm up the crowd for the rest of the day. According to dope the Gold and Black should pull it out. At ten Deer Creek and Burlington should put on one of the feature battles of the tourney with Burlington given an edge by the dopesters.

If the dope holds true, and it seldom does in a tournament, the semi finals will find Flora pitted against Carrollton and the Oracles taking on Burlington. Both of these should develop into battles but it is hardly likely that either the Badgers or the Oracles will fail to come through. Which would bring on the battle that the fans have been waiting for. Who you pick will depend a good deal on where you live.

While the fans speculate and pray the teams are saying nothing and sawing wood.
