Robert Lee Smith

Robert Lee " B o b " Smith, 85, of Horseshoe Bend Rd., Brookston, passed away March 16, 2007, at 12:30 a.m. at Medical Center in Lafayette.

Born Aug. 24, 1921, in Detroit, Mich., he was the son of Lee and Mary Gail Dudley Smith. He attended high school in Detroit. His marriage was to Joan Rider in Detroit on Jan. 16, 1942, and she survives.

He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in New Guinea, Philippines.

He worked for the Ford Motor Co. in Livonia, Mich., for 25 years, retiring and moving to Carroll County in 1989.

Mr. Smith was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Pittsburg.

He enjoyed fishing and living on the Tippecanoe River. He also enjoyed helping other senior citizens with home improvement projects.

He was a Godly man who loved his family, his Lord and his church family.

Surviving are four daughters, Barbara Schultz of Romulus, Mich., Sandra Rider (husband: Steve) of West Lafayette, and Karen Ciszewski (husband: Ken) and Diane Timlick (husband: Joe), all of Fowlerville, Mich.; two sons, Rev. Lester Smith (wife: Linda) of Hillsdale, Mich. and Gary Smith (fiancee: Kathryn Lomerson) of West Bloomfield, Mich.; five sisters, Dorothy Jacobs and Gladys Taylor, both of Dearborn Heights, Mich., Evelyn Bernice Smith of Florida, Shirley Mitchell of Warren, Mich. and Lois Magnus (husband: Rev. Martin) of Canada; three brothers, Russell Smith (wife: Evah) of Florida, James Smith (wife: Betty) of Dearborn Heights and Gerald Smith (wife: Lorraine) of Riverview, Mich.; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Ravaun Smith, and a brother, William Lester Smith.

Services were held Monday at First Assembly of God in Pittsburg with the Rev. Lester Smith and Pastor Brent Oliver officiating. Burial was at I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens in Pittsburg. Military rites were performed by Delphi American Legion Post #75 and Delphi VFW Post #9383.

Abbott Funeral Home in Delphi was in charge of arrangements.
