Alissa L.Clawson,15, is the daughter of Rusty and Amy Clawson.
The Rossville High School sophomore was nominated by her guidance counselor, Chylene Price.
Clawson has participated in activities involving school clubs such as FCA and FCCLA, which do work around the community such as picking up trash around our City Park. She won a calendar contest when she attended Piper Elementary School in Kansas City, Kan. This city-wide program brought awareness of air pollution dangers to the people who lived in Kansas City in both Kansas and Missouri. She is actively involved in the safety awareness program at her father's workplace. These programs include an annual safety calendar contest, Christmas card safety awareness, and most recently, a program in which artwork is transferred to trash dumpsters around the plant to raise awareness to employees of how important it is to work in a safe manner. She has won several awards for these activities.
She is also part of the Learning to Lead program for Clinton County and is currently working on a TATU presentation for the Rossville Middle School seventh grade and another county-wide program, Taking It To The Streets activity on "Kick Butts Day" as part of the VOICE group. Both of these programs address the dangers of tobacco use among pre-teen and teenage children.
Her academic achievements are as follows: A Honor Roll recognition many times, as well as A-B Honor Roll recognition; 3.8 grade point average and she ranks fifth in her class; President's Award for Academic Excellence; Science Enrichment, top five students in English, social studies, and math; "Euclid" Award twice for achievement in math; English Honors student; included in the Rossville High School Academic Banquet; high marks in math and science and was invited to study at the Indiana Academy for her junior and senior years.
Clawson enjoys art class, and has been recognized for several of her art projects in which one of her pieces was featured on the cover of the 2006 Underclassmen Awards program.
