Burlington Council approves request to vacate alley Burlington Town Council approved a request to vacate an alley at their March 7 meeting. Local contractor Stan Moore requested that the alley on the former Rhine's Landscaping property be vacated so that he can proceed with plans to put in a subdivision. The alley is still on the town plat book, but is not used. Street and Sewage Superintendent Les Johnson will determine which streets need immediate attention once weather breaks. Mill Road seems to be the worst. The sunken area on that road will be addressed prior to any paving. Johnson also reported that the pump on Zook Lane is an ongoing problem. Town Marshal Jill Hammond's report for February included: 14 citations for speed; 2 for driving while suspended; 4 warning tickets issued; 2 accident reports taken; and 1 criminal mischief report taken. She also responded to a disturbance near Michigan and Mill roads involving an individual who was arrested for underage consumption and public intoxication. Hammond also attended training at the Indiana Drug Enforcement Association annual conference held in Indianapolis. The contract with the Burlington Park superintendent was signed. The new contract includes a waiver for his wife. Steve Barnard was praised for a job well done concerning snow removal. The next meeting will be April 11 at 7 p.m. in the town hall. |
