Alcohol and drug education group offered at Family Services
Comet staff report

Family Services, Inc. announces that Insight, a nine-session educational group to help youth in grades 7-12 who are using alcohol, marijuana, and other drugs, will begin on April 4. The program will run from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m., and will continue to meet each Wednesday evening through May 30. The registration deadline is March 28.

Insight guides participants to examine the effects of drugs and alcohol use on their lives, and to consider what actions they can take to improve their lives. Insight is often the first step in an extended intervention process. Topics of discussion include:

+Defenses and the role they play in the use of alcohol and other drugs

+Harmful physical and mental effects of alcohol and drug use

+Myths about getting high

+Stages of use, abuse, and dependency

+Warning signs of addiction and dependency

+Consequences participants have experienced from their use of alcohol and drugs

All groups will meet at Family Services, Inc.'s office at 731 Main Street, Lafayette. Costs of the program are funded through a grant from the Coalition for a Safe and Drug-Free Tippecanoe County in Lafayette. To register or obtain more information, please call Erin Smith or Jennifer Swartz at 423-5361 or toll-free at (800) 875-5361.
