Hillcrest Elementary School students will participate in the World's Largest Concert as it is broadcast on March 13 at 1 p.m. on PBS.

The broadcast allows students from around the world to participate simultaneously in the performance of five songs during the concert.

An estimated 8 million school children will raise their voices in song in classrooms, auditoriums and gymnasiums as the program is broadcast throughout various countries.

Water from the stone quarry is being discharged into the north end of the canal in Delphi at the rate of 3,000 gallons a minute or over 4 million gallons a day. Flood gates located off SR 39, south of Dave's IGA, are designed to prevent flooding in the area. If necessary, the water to the canal also can be turned off and diverted back to the river. The limestone blocks around the pipe were from the former railroad overpass on old SR 25. A dedication and recognition ceremony will be held at a later date.

Three roads were closed in the county due to spring flood waters washing out two culverts and a bridge during the past week.

Because of the wet weather and thawing conditions, Carroll County roads are becoming unsafe for driving in some areas and impassable in spots.

County Road Supervisor Robert Delaplane listed approximately 40 places where holes and washes have developed in roads and the list is growing.

Dr. Alvin Eller, Flora physician, was elected a director of Bright National Bank at its annual meeting. Sunflower oil as a diesel fuel substitute is receiving widespread attention.

An informational meeting is set to update farmers on the alternatives of sunflower oil as a fuel source and sunflower meal as a protein source in livestock.

Still another sign of spring is renewed activity in 4-H club work among the 907 4-H members in Carroll county. They join the 82,000 in Indiana for the observance of National 4-H Club week, March 2 to 9. Boys and girls 10-21 can join this group by securing membership cards at the county agent's office.

A prominent farmer, living out on Delphi route 3, wither had to admit he is color blind or find another quick excuse last week. He decided to come to Delphi March 1st but knew he must have his previously purchased new license plates on his car. He worked diligently making the change and to abide by the law but when he arrived in Delphi he was "picked up" by the police. He argued that he had changed the plates only an hour before. Finally it was definitely determined that he took his old plate off, carefully put it back on and threw his new plate in the trash pile.

Better attendance is reported this week in practically every one of the county schools than for the week before, according to Miss Ruth Ayres, attending officer. Owasco is probably the exception.

Two farmers north of Delphi were arraigned in city court and charged with possession of liquor, pleading guilty and paying a fine of $100 and costs of $40. A commitment for 30 days in jail was help up by the court.

S.A McVey, who is serving as marshal during the absence of A.B. McCormick, favors the strict enforcement of the laws and it is said tomorrow the lid will be on tight for the first time in Flora for many months. Both the drug stores and saloons will be watched close. The saloon that has been in the habit of opening up Sunday mornings had no doubt better stay closed at least during the reign of Col. McVey.
