Letters to the Editor Who is watching out for you? Could it be a passerby, a previous firefighter, or an offduty Carroll County sheriff's deputy? Yes, it was all three - Mike Thomas of Flora, a county deputy. He was on his way to a Purdue girls' basketball game when he saw black smoke coming from the west gable of the barn at the Rick and Connie Brown property on SR 18 West. Thomas stopped to check on the smoke and found flames about eight feet high inside the barn. After calling 911 to alert the Delphi Tri-Township Volunteer Fire Department, Thomas began throwing snow on the fire. By the time Brown got home and the fire department arrived, Thomas nearly had the fire out. The deputy was a little "smoky" but he made it to the ball game, only a few minutes late.
You just never know who is watching out for you - on or off duty! Isn't Carroll County a special place to live!! |
