Delphi and Carroll high schools squared off Feb. 28 in the Bacon Bowl Battle of Books, a reading competition between the two county high schools.
After losing a close match last year, Delphi emerged with a 119-111 victory, earning the right to keep the skillet at DCHS for the coming year.
Students from both schools were assigned 10 books to read. Each school held local contests to determine which teams would represent them in the cross-county battle.
Contestants were asked 150 questions based on the assigned books at the final event in Delphi.
Both teams got off to a slow start, missing the first five questions each. After fending off a last-minute surge by Carroll's NURDS team, the Overlords from DCHS prevailed.

Delphi teams were sponsored by Friends of Delphi Public Library, Rotary Club, Lions Club, Psi Iota Xi and Tri Kappa. Books for Delphi were purchased through Gifted and Talented funds.
Grants from Carroll County REMC, Carroll County Advocates for Literacy and a donation from Flora Psi Iota Xi Sorority supported Carroll teams.
Carroll will host the junior high version of the competition, "Bacon Bits Battle of the Books," on March 19.
